Boy Shocked 31 Times - He Wouldn't Remove His Coat
Video of Boy Shocked 31 Times For Not Removing Coat Finally Released
"In February, we reported Ms. McCollins' plight and her calling for the public viewing of startling footage of her then 18 year-old son, Andre, receiving 31 electroshocks at Judge Rotenburg Center for the disabled (JRC) for not removing his jacket.
In 2002, Andre, now 27, had been zapped, restrained, sprawled out face down with a helmet, and shocked another 30 times anytime he flinched or screamed out in pain. The aversive shock "treatment" continued all day with no food, water, or bathroom breaks.
When Cheryl visited her son, he was unresponsive and later rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with acute stress response."

Video at link, not embeddable - for me at least. A bit shocking (npi) so just a warning.
Hard to believe that this kind of thing goes on. Sick and twisted people parading as "therapists".

Thanks for embedding that Currahee, didn't think it would be on youtube already, but everything moves like lightning anymore.
Pretty twisted stuff. Hard to believe they would do that to a kid.
Took several years for the video to finally get released, and Fox News recorded it in the courtroom after the judge OK'ed it.

Good point.
It seems that institutions and police officers can be as liberal with their shocks and tasers as they want.
But lay a finger on that same kid - no matter what the issue, and the child welfare nazis will be knocking down your front door.

That's sickening.
Hard enough to have to put a family member, your son, into an institution to be taken care of properly because you are unable too - and to trust them and then to find this out.
My cousin is just about ready to institutionalize her 17 yr old autistic son - who has really begun to be extremely violent and she worries about her newborn - and she worries about his treatment. Cannot blame her. Very hard decision.
And yet you have to trust them. I'm sure most are good, but man alive the bad ones out there are just awful. You never know.

Yeah that's pretty sad stuff. There's no behavior that would call for that torture. In my mind that's what it was, straight up torture for tortures sake.

I'm sorry. But if anyone ever did anything similar to my children, you'd see in me in the news for murder...

I have a strong protective streak for my kids also.
And hopefully there will be justice.

I work in an institution for such children. It's very difficult to do the right thing with all the regulations and therapists and administrators deciding all the rules.
The kid will not live a normal life with love and fulfillment. He may experience some friendships and group activities, but his life will undoubtedly be an institutionalized one akin to imprisonment. His little bit of freedom will be thoroughly controlled by the whims of the staff placed in his care.
Where I work, a lot of the staff are people with broken homes and broken families who drink and use drugs and listen to rap music and cuss. It's a sad state of affairs.
