They should focus more on improving the efficiency of existing combustion engines. If my old 1994 Saturn SL1 which in it's time had a retail price of $9995 can get 40-43mpg on the highway and around 38mpg with mixed highway/city driving, then why the hell are modern non-hybrid vehicles not getting much better than a couple mpg better than that? Hybrids are a scam, much more can be done to greatly improve gas engines - they just don't want to. And then there are the diesel options... but most of us American's are dumb shits and don't seem to want diesel engines.

Something I figured out during my first college classes on electricity. We don't have a way to store electricity.

Add in that the small amount of electricity we can store as chemical energy in heavy toxic batteries has to come from something like coal, oil or hydro, figure out the conversion losses both directions, and electric cars are stupid. As are the people buying and many of those promoting them. Not all of those promoting them are stupid; they may simply be in it for the money they can get via government or from those stupid enough to buy them.

Why not?

Because we don't have a way to output more energy than we input, thus you cannot eliminate plugging it in at all or otherwise continuously replenishing a fuel source.

Most cars in America drive 20 -30 miles to work, sit for 8 hours then drive 20 -30 miles home, solar panels cannot recharge those batteries in 8 hours? about 70% of the top surface area of a parked car could hold or be made of solar panels, could it not? what is not possible? Maybe the oil companies don't want it to be possible?
