Would not be swimming for sure nor knowingly eat any of the seafoods still.

BP and the others should have simply paid all workers or hired them part time to clean, clean, clean only. I must add 2 years of cleaning would now seem to the rest of us as a preferred intervention. Yet, someone somewhere thought biz would be ruined asap if they did not act like all is fine (when it is far from it). To me that was a mistake as the entire world knows and many of us want them to clean it up still, no more excuses.

These people that have lived there all this time deserve to be treated correctly and so do the rest of us that would buy their products or visit there. They could have made this contaminated event into the very first green clean up event with more effort and intelligence at the time of their never ending cover what you can up decisions.

I think the people have been very courageous that live there. I may have visited by now if this had not happened as I was invited to do so. The losses in the tourist industry alone are numerous yet if they had spent this time cleaning and not selling I may at this time, yes later on, would feel better about visiting there.

RE: It's STILL not safe to swim in the Gulf of Mexico
BP claimed they were cleaning things up. What really happened was they brought in truckloads of new, clean white sand and dumped it on top of the visible tar and oil. I know this because I go to GoM beaches all the time.

All you need to do is dig down about a foot into the sand just a few feet away from where the water generally breaks on the beach, and you'll find your fingers coated in black stuff. If you keep digging you'll still find layers of it: white sand, black tar, sand, tar, sand, tar, etc. Who knows how far does it goes, since they'd come out at least weekly with new sand to cover up what had washed up on shore. It was disgusting to me.

But the worst part is seeing those stupid BP ads on TV with smiley people talking about how much they care and how they're going to make everything better again.

All BP did was sweep a little sand over the oil to make it look nice. That's the equivalent of putting a bandaid on a bullet wound -- in your forehead.

Tissue

Some of the most beautiful beaches in the US have been ruined forever, and 99.999% of the world has no clue.

If society fell apart, we - the people would build a new one. Most people are good at their core, and when we see things that are wrong we work to fix them together. Make friends with your neighbors, get involved with your community - because we will rebuild our lives, our communities, from horrible circumstances we always will.
