Just watched a DWI arrest
Poor kid. They stopped him in the parking lot at the supermarket. Probably pulled off to get some grub to take home and pass out. Wasn't all that wasted, a little wobbly. He said he had three pints of Bud at the pub. Probably didn't think he would even fail the tests when he got out of the car. He's fucked now too, new laws in NY as of last week or the week before. He'll have to get the ignition lock and everything now.
Ya know, I'm not saying people should drive drunk, but these laws are fuckin bullshit. Now I can see if someone falls out of the car wasted and puking they should get a DWI, but nailing some kid for a DWI because he pulled a California stop at a sign in the middle of the night in an empty parking lot is bullshit.

Drunk drivers should be taken out of the vehicle and shot on the spot.
Just like El Salvador does.

There aren't enough mechanics willing to install the interlocks to keep up with the demand. I'm pretty good friends with a garage owner and a few of his mechanics so I suggested it to him, and after meeting with two companies, he concluded that it wasn't worth the pain in the ass and low return. They have to be calibrated monthly.
I'd argue for SCRAM instead, although that won't stop you from getting behind the wheel if you do drink. They should have SCRAM + GPS. I wore one as a test drive when I was writing a chapter on technology in probation. Went to a bar where everyone proceeded to get me exponentially trashed. I was beyond wobbly and thought I was probably pulling a .2 or something. Nope, I was a 1.2! How people can drive that drunk is beyond me. Also, if you smoke pot after you drink, it'll make the skin emissions spike (don't know about BAC though, different technology). It was funny, the woman I spoke with who was looking at my chart noticed a spike that corresponded with the time I got home and smoked out. Of course, I played stupid. Don't want to let them in on it.

RE: Just watched a DWI arrest
And one more thing. In probation, resources in the millions a year are thrown at about 5,500 sex offenders when there are over 25,000 DWI offenders on probation; and you have to really screw up with multiple convictions before you will get probation. I always argued that the resources should focus on those offenders because they are a far greater threat.

I think it's just as dangerous to drive around talking and texting on your cellphone as drinking a few beers and driving. You'll never hear Candy Lightner (sp?) saying anything about cell phones and driving though. She's probably got one glued to her ear as she drives.
Whenever I come upon a car that is driving funny, I always look to see if they have a phone to their head, and they usually do.

Should he consider himself lucky he didn't have stray leftover
firecrackers from the Fourth on the floormats?
Is the STEAL YOUR CAR thing statewide in NY for that now?

Is this an exaggerated story by any chance.
Just read it again. There's holes.

someone else saw that too, huh
jack, did one of your friends bitch about having to blow into their car to get it started, then you imagined yourself following a 17 year old in their car, go follow them into a grocery store parking lot, and witness the exchange invisibly
we want the whole story or nothing please, and if it's a fantasy, i'd love to know first off, otherwise i just think you're a retard

RE: Just watched a DWI arrest
Jack is not lying to you. I live in NYS, too. There was a story about this today in the local newspaper.
I am not on the side of someone who drinks and drives, ending someone else's life. Not at all.
But the particulars of this story sort of make you wince. GPS to track wherever these people go..they have to pay for the device, PLUS a monthly fee, etc. etc. And if they don't have the money? Hello, taxpayers! This just became a law in New York State after Aug 15.
TPTB start out with something (a small group of people) to begin their 'agenda'. What agenda is that? Tracking people. All new vehicles today come equipped with gps tracking devices. Because..what if your car is stolen? Why, the good guy authorities can just stop it dead in its tracks...
What if you become an enemy of the state for whatever reason, maybe for political reasons? They can stop YOU dead in your tracks. Try getting around without your vehicle.
Wouldn't want a new vehicle. And yes, this story made me wince. There is more to this, not that the average person will ever pick up on it.

RE: Just watched a DWI arrest
i don't drive and i walk drunk pretty well
works for me
if someone wants to see me they're picking me up or i'm taking some kind of transportation, but that's just me
if i'd had a license i'd be dead 10 million times over, because i would have driven more
these new cars joggle my frontal lobe and upset me when i drive them

RE: Just watched a DWI arrest
I disagree, Jack. I think that driving at all above legal limit is not ok, no matter if you think the lot empty or not. What if some homeless guy happens to be sleeping under that pile of blankets the slightly intoxicated kid just rolled over? What if some other high school kid is out that late night jsut looking to have some last minute fun at the local movies and diner and happens to be walking where this kid is driving and not paying full attention and not having his reflexes up to snuff. Where normally he might be able to stop and not hurt someone, now he might injure or kill someone.
I don't want to be the one paying with a dead child because someone thought that this slightly drunk kid was getting too hard a deal. Kid choose to drink. the ones he kills didn't choose to die.
