Kansas Jury Refuses To Recognize Marijuana Laws Posted by JacobSloan on August 22, 2
This is from Aug 22..
All I got to say is "way to go Kansas."
This has happened before in parts of the country where you might not expect it and seems to be a growing trend which the government would rather you not know about. Via Reason, a Kansas defense attorney recounts the turn of events:

That jury should be locked up for contempt of court. It's their job to determine innocence or guilt.
It's not their job to opine on what the law "should" be.

That doesn't mean that juries get to pick and choose what laws should be enforced based on their popularity. This is anarchy.

When the Jury isnt allowed to hear the whole story, then that is not justice.
Ever hear of the Non Joinder Statute?
It says that in a Car accident case the jury is never to be told that the defendant has insurance or not.
It was only put in place because the insurance companies found out that juries don't mind giving bigger settlements to plaintiffs if the defendant has insurance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Who are you to decide what a whole jury decides is wrong?
Sir Winston Churchill,
The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government.

All juries should do the same.

Not true. It's called jury nullification. Jurors have an obligation to their fellow citizens to find a defendant not guilty if the very laws used to prosecute are unconstitutional. It's a final defense against tyranny. It doesn't matter from technical standpoint whether the offense was actually committed or what evidence is presented by the prosecution. Single jurors have voted their conscience and refused to convict resulting in a hung trial. Decisions by juries must be unanimous. TPTB would rather not have us know this so these type of things don't happen very often. This is why the jury selection process is so rigorous and drawn out. Both the judge and prosecutor attempt to weed out (no pun intended) anyone sympathetic to the issues that have brought a defendant to trial. As long as jurors didn't lie during the jury selection process they are well within their constitutional right to express their view that any law is unconstitutional, even murder. The war on marijuana is stupid. The government should regulate, tax it, and take all the criminal incentive and profit out of it. A lot of our budget deficits would be closed. After all alcohol and tobacco are legal and they are both far, far more harmful. The jury did the right thing. They voted their conscience. This is how the law is supposed to work. Nothing contemptuous about it.

In fact, that beer everyone loves so much, is only there, because of Jury Nullification, or at least from all accounts that is what it looks like happened.
Drink up..

In THIS case google IS your friend dumb ass... Look up Jury Nullification. It is PART AND PARCEL of your DUTY as an American citizen chosen for Jury duty. JUST because the bought and paid for BAR members (including the so called judge) dont shove it down your throat and spoon feed the LAW of the LAND to you does NOT mean it it not your duty to look into it... It does NOT relive YOU of YOUR responsibility to know and understand your rights and power as a juror...
