Killers have brain damage...study
New research provides the strongest evidence to date that psychopathy is linked to specific structural abnormalities in the brain. The study, led by researchers at King’s College London Institute of Psychiatry (IoP) is the first to confirm that psychopathy is a distinct neuro-developmental sub-group of anti-social personality disorder (ASPD).
The study was funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London and published in Archives of General Psychiatry.
Most violent crimes are committed by a small group of persistent male offenders with ASPD. Approximately half of male prisoners in England and Wales will meet diagnostic criteria for ASPD. The majority of such men are not true psychopaths (ASPD-P). They are characterised by emotional instability, impulsivity and high levels of mood and anxiety disorders. They typically use aggression in a reactive way in response to a perceived threat or sense of frustration.
However, about one third of such men will meet additional diagnostic criteria for psychopathy (ASPD+P). They are characterised by a lack of empathy and remorse, and use aggression in a planned way to secure what they want (status, money etc.). Previous research has shown that psychopaths’ brains differ structurally from healthy brains, but until now, none have examined these differences within a population of violent offenders with ASPD.
Dr Nigel Blackwood from the IoP at King’s and lead author of the study says: ‘Using MRI scans we found that psychopaths had structural brain abnormalities in key areas of their ‘social brains’ compared to those who just had ASPD. This adds to behavioural and developmental evidence that psychopathy is an important subgroup of ASPD with a different neurobiological basis and different treatment needs’

RE: Killers have brain damage...study
Another study to demonize brain damage and possibly serve as evidence to arrest people for a crime they might commit based on a brain scan. Science understands virtually nothing about the brain or repairing brain damage . . . yet they 'know' this stuff since it can be used to dominate the human race.
Just because there's brain damage doesn't mean they are killers or would ever kill. However, the psychopaths at the top of the power structure kill more than any one person with brain damage. The Rothschilds and Rockefellers for starters.....Gates, Bush, etc. Do they have brain damage? Why do I think they'll target the average person instead of getting rid of the people in power for their 'defects'?

I'm with Zardoz. I trust NOTHING about the establishment and their psychiatric studies - especially the British (think Tavistock). That said, I once read a book about serial killers and a high percentage of them (around 90%) have had head injuries. I do not think that's what makes them serial killers but may be a contributing factor on top of their soul-less sharks.

RE: Killers have brain damage...study
I wonder -
Is the abnormality congenital or a result of damage?
-----------------
Re - brain damage and personality change -
I've known 2 adults who suffered damage - 1 = got beat-up super bad, 2 - some type of stroke.
They both came out with significantly changed personalities. Same person -- but very different. Really concerned their wives - cuz their hubs are someone different.

Very well said! It might be genetic.
It (Soul-less Sharkiness) could run in ultra-pure bloodlines.

I think the study means congenital abnormality. The book I read on serial killers were actual injuries.

I think these conditions, which I prefer to call sociopathy, are a physical manifestation of the condition of spirit (or lack thereof). Maybe the head injuries make them impulsive whereas a sociopath like Hillary Clinton, who hasn't had a head injury, is highly controlled in her predatory behavior.

RE: Killers have brain damage...study
I think this research is important for a few reasons. While I don't believe that people with one form of brain injury or the other are going to commit murders automatically, , I do believe its important to understand that in a significant amount of cases brain injuries that are located in specific brain centers may increase the risk of violent behavior. This is significant because treatment may lessen the likelihood of socially abhorrent behavior that leads to murder.
For another thing understanding that brains of many people who commit murder are just different, could help solve cases that defy logic.
Earlier a poster suggested that we know almost nothing about the brain and its connection to behaviors, and that is simply not true. While that may have been true a decade ago, research like this has contributed immensely to our understanding of human behavior. Like any branch of science neuroscience is a dual edged sword with both the potential for misuse or great benefit. The fault lies not in the pure science, but in the applications that knowledge is used in. Knowledge has always been used by opportunists, that doesn't mean it is by itself evil or good.
Mixing apples and oranges by comparing the evils of the so called Illuminati and violent offenders is also illogical. Why even bother bringing it up in context with this topic except to express generalized anxiety about the world in general

RE: Killers have brain damage...study
I just got this non-fiction book to read by Pete Earley
.. .. .. here's the inside jacket excerpt/teaser:
Quote:"Fifteen year old Tony Ciaglia had everything a teenager wants-good grades, good athletic skills and good friends- until he suffered a horrific head injury at summer camp. Pronounced clinically dead three times by helicopter paramedics before he reached a hospital, Ciaglia lapsed into a coma. When he emerged, his right side was paralyzed and he had to relearn how to walk, talk and eat. His brain damage also required him to take countless pills to control his emotions.
Abandoned and shunned by his friends, he began writing to serial killers on a whim and discovered that the same traumatic brain injury that made him an outcast to his peers now enabled him to connect emotionally with notorious murderers. Soon, many of America's most dangerous psychopaths were revealing to him heinous details about their crimes-even those they'd never been convicted of. The killers opened up to him, trusted him and called him a "best friend".
But there was a price. As Tony found himself being drawn deeper and deeper into their violent worlds of murder, rape and torture, he was pushed to the brink of despair and, at times forced to question his own sanity until he found a way to use his gift. Asked by investigators from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to aid in solving a murder, Tony began launching his own personal searches for forgotten victims, with clues often provided to him voluntarily by the killers themselves.
The Serial Killer Whisperer takes readers into the minds of murderers as never before-straight from a killer's thoughts to paper. It is also an inspiring tale of an American family whole idyllic life is shattered by a terrible accident and how healing and closure came to a tormented man in the most unlikely way-connecting with monsters."
Maybe the brain damage created a resonance but he lacked the Sharky Soul-less-ness to join their ranks and pleasures.
