I'm about to give Linux Mint a try, leaning toward the MATE install, has anybody used Cinnamon?

It's got to be better than Ubuntu 11.10.

RE: Linux Nerds: MATE or Cinnamon?
anyone?

I'm leaning toward MATE because it looks like the Gnome shell from Ubuntu 10 to 11.04 and was designed specifically for people jumping the Ubuntu ship for that reason... basically its a safe bet. Just wondering about people's impressions of Cinnamon. Is it an Improvement, or should I wait for them to develop it more?

I didn't care for Ubuntu 11.10 either! In fact a bunch of the distros seemed to have badly put together releases the last couple years IMO. Ive been on Kubuntu 12.04 since beta release. I don't use KDE though I like xfce

I run MATE.. its extremely stable and very functional. MATE is the Gnome project resurrected, essentially.

I am most curious about cinnamon but... since it is new I am waiting for them to work out the kinks.

MATE is great.

RE: Linux Nerds: MATE or Cinnamon?
HEY AGNOSTIC CHECK IT OUT - just download the Mate version and once its installed, go in the software manager and download Cinnamon Desktop. Then choose your flavor at the login screen.

Problem solved.

the latest is 5.2.8 and looks a bit different.

http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/puppy-5.html
Conclusion

And that's it. Puppy 5 is a tremendous success. The boot sequence has been improved; it looks nicer, more polished and is more streamlined. The desktop is even more refined. You get tons of great programs. Then, there's Quickpet. Everything works out of the box, including Wireless, Samba, multimedia playback. All of this in just 120MB.

What more could you ask for?

When it comes to being compact, practical, ultra-fast, and versatile, Puppy has no rival. It is by far the best lightweight distribution available. If you're wondering what modern technology can do, then please download Puppy 5 and see for yourself.

Yeah, this is what i'll do. I've let my nerd muscles atrophy for the last decade, and the computer im switching over is my work machine, so im very cautious. Thanks for the tip.

I was planning to roll back to 10.04, but thought better of it. Ubuntu is dead to me as a project after the betrayal of Unity, so if im going to go to all the trouble of reinstalling i want to try something new.
