Salt water is all they use in the east texas oil field.salt water doesnt corrode when the oil covers everything.sure it may break down oil somewhat but the light oil floats to the top.the good stuff.leaving the tar trash behind.most oil wells are so deep they dont bother the fresh water.if the oil is shallow then its already affecting the ground water.
We have giant pits of salt water on every well drilling site.i grew up in the oilfield.i know.

To you aussies.buy or build a tire store.thats where the money is as all the service trucks and trailers will need lots of tires.when the field is drilled.sell the store and build a new one closer to where all the rigs are.like every fifty miles.never finance tires to small companies that start up.they will bankrupt and leave you hanging.enjoy being rich.it will last fifty years.as that is typical field life.

This is disingenuous.

Using expensive energy sources lowers the standard of living.

The new, cheap, clean energy sources are only cheap if they are heavily subsidized and only clean if the hardware is built in China (exporting the pollution).

This would make them just new energy sources.

Biofuel in some cases is cheap - but is a major source of land erosion in the US (where it is subsidized) and rainforest destruction abroad.

It seems like a lot of you guys are missing on the meaning of the words "Study" and "Findings".
It also seems like a lot of you are ignoring the fact that oil wars and population control through energy is a reality.
I'm not saying to drop oil all together and use the current alternative sources. That's borderline idiocy.
I guess people don't have "faith" that real cheap and clean power sources can be a reality in a near future.

Well, it can't. Right now these technologies on the drawing board or in the "early adopter" stage.

I don't see fossil fuels being used for energy generation past 2060. Thorium reactors and other sources will be cheaper because of the transportation and extraction costs of fossil fuels.

This E-Cat system is something I'm watching. Hope it isn't a hoax. Did a hip pocket estimate of the costs and it currently is more expensive than solar - assuming it works.

When high efficiency solar cells from organic polymers can be sprayed on or glued on (combined with a 10x reduction in battery costs/10x increase in density) this could be the killer app for home electric power and many other applications.

Going new tech too soon leaves you with obsolete inefficient technology.

It's all a mute point.. OPEC is a legal globalized monopoly for oil. Supply has never been an issue, peak oil was myth used to drive up oil prices in order to increase profit.. It boils down to the dollars, nothing more.

Oy! Shale fracking is a questionable method riddled with consequences. I would think processing mineral oil sands is the way to go.

If it proceeds, the West will intervene against the vegamite jihadists that are endangering the future generations of those cuddly koala bears. And, eating joeys!!

Barbie with Sheila before it's too late!

The price of oil is set by the brokers and traders, not in the oil fields...

Good find. Since Australia is basically an extension of the west, I imagine the lion's share will go to NATO.

This will make Australia a MAJOR target for Chinese conquest. Good thing Australians have been disarmed!

doomed

Always fearful, always terrified. TPTB have done a great job.

If there is twice as much oil in the world, then there's LESS international competition for middle eastern oil.

China (from what I remember) is the biggest buyer of Iranian oil. They can have that all to themselves. They're also exploring Africa for oil and if found, will own that.

Salt water rusts the processing equipment or the saudi's would be 'swimming' in oil.

Salt breaks down hydro carbons as well...pardon sodium does.

Cheers

They can always desalt the water from the ocean before they use it but not too sure how cost effective it would be.

There's a story behind every person.
There's a reason why they're the way they are.
They aren't just like that because they want to.
Something in the past created them.
And sometimes it's impossible to fix them.

Candle RIP Karen and Galaxy.

The Syrian government has granted amnesty to a group of Takfiri militants .
“I started fighting [against the Syrian government] thinking we would have a better future, but when the foreign militants started coming in and dominating the scene I knew it was wrong,” one of the militants who has turned himself in said.

I am happy about this... Australia is a somewhat underpopulated, underdeveloped and overly remote country... I always wish them the best...
