work Pseudoephedrine tablet that cannot be used in meth a 'game changer'

Advocates for a prescription-only pseudoephedrine law say a “game changer” has just hit Springfield pharmacies.

Within a week, half a dozen stores in Springfield will be selling Zephrex-D –a pseudoephedrine tablet that, its developers say, cannot be used to make meth.

Paul Hemings, Vice President of St. Louis-based Westport Pharmaceuticals, said the drug has been shipped to four Walmart locations and two CVS Pharmacy locations in Springfield. Some stores may be offering Zephrex-D as early as today but all are expected to have the decongestant on the shelf by Monday.

The so-called meth-resistant form of pseudoephedrine will likely be a hot topic at a Dec. 21 City Council Committee meeting. It will be the second meeting in which council members discuss a proposed ban on over-the-counter pseudoephedrine.

During the committee’s first meeting, Springfield law enforcement officials described the dangers that meth labs pose to officers and the community.

They also pointed to evidence that requiring a prescription for meth’s main ingredient might eliminate local production of the highly-addictive drug.

Opponents of the proposal have long argued that such a ban would place undue burdens on law-abiding citizens.

With Zephrex-D now in stores, advocates like Sgt. Jason Grellner of the Missouri Narcotics Officers Association say only big pharmaceutical companies with monied interests are left to complain.

“The industry knows products like Zephrex-D are going to cut into their profits and that’s what they are protecting,” he said.

Grellner, who for three years has traveled the state ushering in pseudoephedrine limits in other Missouri communities, recommends city council pass a prescription requirement but exempt meth-proof drugs like Zephrex-D.

Jefferson City lobbyist Jim Moody said he has not seen any publicly available study proving Zephrex-D cannot be used to make meth.

Bump

All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

They'll just use something else. (I assume, I know nothing about meth or its process)

I, for one, need pseudoephedrine to unclog my ears before flights.

There's more then 1 way to skin a cat so to speak.... There's other ways to get ephedrine. FFs ephedrine comes from a plant...

This will lead to new ingredients needed to chemically alter the current state if anything.

Sudaphed WORKS, that's why the nazis don't want you to have it. Using 1 million dumb ass methies out of 320 million citizens is a pathetic weak f*cking excuse. It's all about having you pay a doctor and a f*cking pharmacist and waste hours of you time so they can get a cut of a OTC pill that no normal person ever abused. Not to mention suffering like a dog at night if that asshole legal drug pusher is closed at night and you have to suffer and choke all night from severe congestion.

When I became an adult in 1988 no one gave a f*ck about that and i had to take care of myself. Now suddenly at 42 I am a helpless child apparently.

What bullshit.

No, Sudafed may 'work', but it isn't safe. The government is keeping long-term usage data from your eyes.

Yeah, it's from a plant ephedra and it's worked in Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. The manipulated raped version isn't safe. like anything you put ion your mouth in America, it's carefully crafted to weaken and sicken.

It's to be used when you have a cold or cough, not any other times.

No one normal takes Dayquil everyday either.
