work Reid: Bain Investor Told Me That Romney 'Didn't Pay Any Taxes For 10 Years

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has what he says is an informed explanation for why Mitt Romney refuses to release additional tax returns. According a Bain investor, Reid charged, Romney didn't pay any taxes for 10 years

...

"His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son," Reid said, in reference to George Romney's standard-setting decision to turn over 12 years of tax returns when he ran for president in the late 1960s.

Saying he had "no problem with somebody being really, really wealthy," Reid sat up in his chair a bit before stirring the pot further. A month or so ago, he said, a person who had invested with Bain Capital called his office. "Harry, he didn't pay any taxes for 10 years," Reid recounted the person as saying.

"He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," said Reid. "But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?

Of course you can claim Reid being partisan, but...

“The fact is, there are a couple of years he may not have paid any taxes. Maybe he’s concerned about that. But if it’s going to come out, he needs to get it out now so he has a couple of months to explain it.” ~Former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, “

I think President Monson (LDS Church) needs to call Mitt in for some counseling. I can just hear it now.

Monson: "Mitt is there anything you want to talk about?"

Do you mean Joe Scarborough or Harry Reid's 3rd party info?

It would easy for Mittens to refute these libels; you know how.

RE: Reid: Bain Investor Told Me That Romney 'Didn't Pay Any Taxes For 10 Years
Did Sen. Harry Reid also mention the corrupt Nevada land deal he conspired and committed that netted him over $1 million?

– The deal began in 1998 when Reid bought undeveloped residential property on Las Vegas' booming outskirts for about $400,000. Reid bought one lot outright, and a second parcel jointly with Brown. One of the sellers was a developer who was benefiting from a government land swap that Reid supported. The seller never talked to Reid.

– In 2001, Reid sold the land for the same price to a limited liability corporation created by Brown. The senator didn't disclose the sale on his annual public ethics report or tell Congress he had any stake in Brown's company. He continued to report to Congress that he personally owned the land.

– After getting local officials to rezone the property for a shopping center, Brown's company sold the land in 2004 to other developers and Reid took $1.1 million of the proceeds, nearly tripling the senator's investment. Reid reported it to Congress as a personal land sale.

The complex dealings allowed Reid to transfer ownership, legal liability and some tax consequences to Brown's company without public knowledge, but still collect a seven-figure payoff nearly three years later.

Reid hung up the phone when questioned about the deal during an AP interview last week…

RE: Reid: Bain Investor Told Me That Romney 'Didn't Pay Any Taxes For 10 Years
As long as he did everything legal (i.e. tax shelters) then who cares if he didn't pay any tax?

This should not reflect on Mitt Romney, the Presidential candidate.

This SHOULD reflect on the American Tax Code and how it is able to be circumvented by those having the wealth to do so.

BRING BACK THE FLAT TAX.

With ZERO loopholes. It's the only fair and equitable way, across the board.

Well I call B.S on this , and let me say this with great confidence. I happen to have clients that are as wealthy as Mitt ( if not moreso) and for those that don't really know the financial world, NO having you money overseas does not make you " tax exempt" . The fed's tentacles are far reaching and this story stinks to high heaven.

RE: Reid: Bain Investor Told Me That Romney 'Didn't Pay Any Taxes For 10 Years
Why should romney have to release his tax forms to the public?

I dont get this way of thinking. Would you release your tax forms to the public? If you say YES...I propose you scan them and release them to this forum.

Other than that, Romney HAS RELEASED HIS TAX FORMS....TO THE IRS. The IRS currently has all of his tax forms. If he did anything illegal, Im sure the IRS would say so, like they do every time a politician owes back taxes.

The IRS hasnt released shit, because Romney has done nothing wrong. Even if he didnt pay any taxes in those years, he did so LEGALLY.
