Roaring Sound Outside...Again---Wierd UPDATED
Advertisement
There is a roaring sound outside this morning. This is the second time in the past couple of months that this has happened.

It sounds just like when jet engines were being tested at a Seattle Mfg,'s airport near our old house, 20 miles away. We lived about a mile from the airport at the time. They would rev up the engines and leave them running at full throtle for a half an hour or so.

We now live 500 feet on a hill in a suburban area of houses and farms. There is manufacturing in the valley, which is about 4 miles away. But, it would have to be something new down there and something so incredibly loud that I cannot imagine there would not be many complaints if it was from a manufacturer. The first time it happened it went from about 4 am to about 7 am. This morning I got up at 4:30 and am hearing it since then. The roar is constant, no dipping in sound or stopping and starting.

This morning it is very windy, and we have alot of trees, but it can be heard above the wind. The first time there was no wind, just cloudy. I have to mention that if atmospheric conditions are just right we can sometimes hear train whistles from the valley in the morning. But this sound is not like it is far off in the distance, but very close by.

We have lived in this house for 15 years and, like I said, this is the second time we have heard this in the past couple of months. I seem to remember that I had read somewhere about people hearing roaring sounds or rumbling. Anybody have any ideas?

UPDATE:
From a couple of posters in this thread this sound is the being heard for at least 25 miles (the other is 15 miles from me). The descriptions are the same. Very strange.....

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE:
Now 4 of us here in the area are hearing it.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE OF THE UPDATE:
It stopped yesterday afternoon sometime and was quiet from then on. This morning it's baaaaaack...... It is starting to get a wee bit annoying.

Have you heard it before? Any idea what it is there?

When it was jet engines at the old house there was a rumbling with it that you could feel. That is not the case here. How about there?

I'm in Redmond, Wa. I hear it when I'm inside my house, it sounds like a combination of loud road noise and water rushing. I don't hear it outside, though. I wonder if the foundation of the house is transferring sound from underground?

I am in the Renton/Kent area. I guess I would check to make sure that you don't have a water line break (lol), BUT that is just about the same sound I am hearing outside. Have you heard it before? We are quite far from each other..............

Prepare for mega quake.

I can't, I finally have work that I have to get done.....lol

Seriously though, we did not have any quakes, small or large, the last time that I heard this. There is one strange note though, usually our area has quite a few teeny-tiny quakes, but it has been very quiet lately.

Maybe it's building up.

Well, I will keep my fingers, toes and anything else that can be crossed that that would not be the case......

I heard it a few weeks ago, but not again until today. I posted on a rumbling thread but I can't seem to find it in my history.
