Olympic athletes and journalists stream into Sochi Russia and find hotels still under construction, and unsafe drinking water.

In Sochi, Russia, Don’t Touch The Water
February 4, 2014

CHICAGO (CBS) — We all know how the old saying goes when you travel: “Don’t drink the water.”

Well in Sochi, Russia, you had better not TOUCH the water, either.

When Chicago Tribune reporter Stacy St. Clair, who is covering the Winter Olympics for the newspaper, arrived at her hotel, she was informed that there was a problem with the water and it had been shut off.

Then hotel staff delivered an ominous warning: “Do not use on your face because it contains something very dangerous.”

Her tweet about the situation has gone viral.

Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hilarious and gross hotel experiences
BY CAITLIN DEWEY February 4

Amid continued debate over whether or not Sochi is prepared to host the 2014 Olympics, which begins Thursday, reporters from around the world are starting to check into local hotels — to their apparent grief. Some journalists arriving in Sochi are describing appalling conditions in the housing there, where only six of nine media hotels are ready for guests. Hotels are still under construction. Water, if it’s running, isn’t drinkable.

CNN booked 11 rooms in one @Sochi2014 media hotel five months ago. We have been here for a day and only one room is available.— Harry Reekie

What a disaster. And people thought the Super Bowl was bad in Jacksonville, wait till the stories come pouring out of Sochi!

The Olympic Committee should face a firing squad for this...oh yeah, and let the Olympic Wrestlers pull the trigger. chuckle
