Ranking by capabilities not ranking by numbers of personnel or quality of training or even number of personnel per amount of people or population.
Useless figures....

These numbers are stupid there is no way the Spanish military is less than Australia it has much more personnel it has some 555,000 active and reserve.
Australia has 79,000 active and reserve.
Spain has 46 million people and Australia 22 million so its over double the population but even if you times Australian personnel by 2 its nowhere near it.

Surprised Australia isn't higher up on the list.....at my work....today is like the only 4th tractor trailer load of crates of 7.62mm going there this month....

it's mostly a statistical look at things. capabilities don't seem to factor in much. It's hard to put a value on those sort of things.

They don't talk about how the formula works. Aus. does spend more on defense than spain. They also have more foreign reserves and oil.

Wow....and they want the US to go do the fighting for them.....if my love for my country wasn't so strong...I'd really be ashamed and embarassed to be an American......

Love for country and love for government are two different things, in my heart at least.

No offence op but GIGO
Garbage In Garbage out.
SouthKorea is looking better than NK
But within 24 hours Seoul would be in ruins and faceing defeat unless the US used tactical nukes
Most of the countries listed have no to limited force deployment capabilities. The only country that can move a massive ground sea and air force to virtually anyplace on earth is the USA.
The ability to project force changes equations.I doubt Brazil and India will ever be in a shooting war even if they really start to hate each other-because they do not have the means to reach a battlefield or battle area.

Also-while I do not support the trillions we give the MIC-a good chunk of the US military budget goes to pay benefits and retirement payments.
US military payroll is somewhere in the ballpark of 50 billion.Add another 50 bil for retirement benefits and we are down 100bl in average expenditures. A few multi billion in fuel-food costs and you see the cost of a large standing army without so much as buying one F22.
Follow this up with training costs and figures become silly.

We have managed to turn everything into a capitalistic enterprise.
Education-health care-military-prison systems-utilities.
Its a system of paying .gov to pay Boeing and Xe after a cut to pay gov payroll and benefits.

Can you guys go back and add labels to what the charts represent?

They're just numbers.

Is it weapons, or spending on weapons, or military population?

RE: World Military Strength Ranking (By Country)
Israel is listed as spending less than Canada.

Canada has very little. A couple dozen fighters in workable order, a few ships all smaller than destroyers, 4 subs, only 1 works, ansd a tank brigade that has eroded down to regimental size.

And a whack of militia armed with Fn rifles from the 60's.

So how can Israel spend less?

That's because the US gives Israel most of its weapons for free.

RE: World Military Strength Ranking (By Country)
Thanks for the post. Really gets you thinking. Why all the military? What is there to protect or defend? Who are all the ones that sign up and for what reason? Last question-Are we as a civilization so evil and bent on destroying ourselves?
Sorry, one more question. Name one country without any military whatsoever?
