I started a BEng in Aeronautical engieering. I remember a lot of maths, partial differentiation, some Fortran, finite element analysis, fluid dynamics and mucking around with a wind tunnel but I don't remember anything about volcanoes. Admittedly I transferred to a different course before graduating but I don't think the final year featured that much about calderas etc.

I'm sure such a skill set can crossover into other fields outside of aeronautical engineering.

For me personally, predicting when volcanoes are going to erupt is not one of them.

RE: Just got back from Geology research program in Yellowstone: Ask me a question.
The nuclear tests on the mainland US and resulting earthquakes may have increased the chances of an eruption at Yellowstone and Long Valley -

September 2017 nuclear test triggers 2019 earthquake in North Korea

The blast created an initial 6.3-magnitude tremor, caused a series of aftershocks and reportedly an on-site collapse.

Large Earthquakes Trigger A Surge In Volcanic Eruptions

New evidence showing that very large earthquakes can trigger an increase in activity at nearby volcanoes has been uncovered by Oxford University scientists.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20...084653.htm

The volcanic eruption may not necessarily be a supereruption -

Since the most recent giant caldera-forming eruption, 640,000 years ago, approximately 80 relatively nonexplosive eruptions have occurred. Of these eruptions.

No one can predict that not even the best volcanologist out there. Doesn't stop them from trying using the latest data available :thumbup

Ok, first obvious question, are you a geologist or a vulcanologist?

He's a former aerospace engineer I believe.

Did he ever present any proof?

I do not label myself. What I stand for is based on my own convictions, and I don't care which box - the left one or the right one - they happen to belong to.

Would be a pretty poor thing to do if he was telling porky pies.

I don't think he even likes pork pies wut?
