A Russian online poker star was discovered dead in her Moscow home last week after being electrocuted while using a hair dryer during a bath, according to local media.

The body of Lilya Novikova, 26, was discovered Tuesday by a neighbor who had gone to check on her after receiving an emergency call from her parents.

An official told the Russian news agency TASS that an initial examination revealed that "traces of an electrical injury" were discovered on her body in what appeared to be an accident.

Novikova, who was known by username liay5 in online poker circles, regularly appeared on the gaming social media platform Twitch, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

RUSSIA Is Kind Of Like America in The 1960's 70's
as far as their Ideological Development into a Capitalist Nation!

You will see all the same Scams That Happened here,
also happen over there! Russia is by far a 1st World
Capitalist Nation Now, as far as Technology goes.
But Capitalism is a sort of newfound development,
they have only been capitalist for roughly 30 yrs.

I am amazed there are no off handed comments like "that's sad, I would poke her".

I hope not, it's bad enough as it is she lost her life at 26 despite how good looking she was. That was literally the biggest gamble of her life bathing while using a hair dryer.

Sounds like an old school hit. Drug someone throw in bathtub with hair dryer or kill them some other place by electrocution(torture) and bring them home and throw in tub with hair dryer. Must have owed someone money or pissed someone off.

Yep
She was way too smart to do that. But why? I have a guess. Every professional gambler I have known(and I have known plenty) were involved with criminals. And she must have done something so egregious, that they had to make an example out of her.

Bit of a stretch isn't it? She was a qualified engineer, a math whiz according to first link and had a large following, kinda hard to imagine a 26 year old getting on the wrong side of some criminals. May have simply been a very sad outcome. What1

Politics only interests me as it affects people psychologically.
Other than that, I couldn't care less about it.

Criminals can be a huge benefit to pro gamblers, protection for one. Criminals will stake you too, how else did she get the bankroll to enter those high level tournaments? What is the entry fee to WSOP now? $10,000 plus expenses? She didn't get there making $500-700/mo as a top math whiz at some University
