So douchebag
A friend of mine grossed over $60K last year working 60 hours + a week
After car maintenance, gas, tolls, wear and tear, bottled water and or drinks that passenger basically stole, Insurance, Airport fees, traffic Cam Tickets, and a $75K car loan.

He Netted $6 thousand dollars! He has since defaulted on the car payments and now has a bankruptcy on his file.

Ubers netted $20k+

Phuck Uber!

Unfortunately if you are self employed you have to gross such a high gross income just to get to minimum wage take home pay that self-employment maintains out of reach by most. Over 90% of new businesses will fail during their first year. Over 90% of new businesses that make it past the first year will fail over the next two. After that, odds improve a lot.

Uber’s Auto-Loan Program Is Basically Indentured Servitude
Those with good credit can usually get their own vehicles, so Uber targets those with poor credit — economically disenfranchised workers who may feel like Uber is their only option for a job and who thus become deeply indebted to Uber merely in order to work.

Uber drivers' next stop: Bankruptcy?

To keep drivers on the road, both Uber and Lyft are offering an ever diversified range of financing options that include short-term rentals and subsidized leases. But when it comes to their personal finances, many Bay Area drivers say they're running on empty.

Drivers — who shoulder a wide range of expenses tied to their work — often describe tenuous financial circumstances that can crash quickly owing to events beyond their control: A company's decision to lower rates – as Uber did in January – vehicle expenses, tickets, and even "vomit events" that can delay their ability to drive.

I worked for a Racetrack Casino for a summer while I was taking some classes. I worked back gate security letting the race horses through the fence between races. Originally I applied for an inside job but turned it down cause I found the terms of employment to be scary as hell. Evidently for being paid around minimum wage, I would have had handled large sums of cash of which I would have to turn everything in at the end of the shift and at the end of each shift a money counter would check to see if everything added up, any discrepancy that is short would be put onto me to cover no matter how large it was and no matter what the reason was (including robbery/theft). To make matters worse any discrepancy short would also be treated as non-forgivable debt in any bankruptcy as the racetrack casino was owned by the state.

One wonders if this law will reduce taxi fares and encourage people to start businesses.

the higher minimum wage goes the less likely it is anyone can afford to hire anyone to work with them, high minimum wage really kills new businesses while limiting competition
